A Historic Time for Housing? - The Housing Forum Topical Debate for the South West
The latest Housing Forum panel debate was held at the Exeter Race Course and discussed the changing climate in housing. A panel of cross-industry experts debated the legacy of the current economic turbulence and predicted consequences for the housing industry. The guest chair was Paul O'Driscoll, Business Development Director of Wates Living Space.

Constructing Excellence welcome the publication by BERR of its response to the Select Committee report Construction Matters. It is available here. The commitment to implementing the new post of Chief construction Officer is welcome, the rather more vague comments about integration and collaborative working are less so.

Report of BE members workshop on July 12
Following the restructure of Constructing Excellence announced in May, around 40 members attended a 2-3 hour workshop on June 12 to hear the detail behind the restructure and to provide feedback on the issues that should drive the future work programme. At its meeting on July 15 the BE steering group received the attached report and agreed that its conclusions will be the framework for improving the value delivered to members in 2008-9. The Infrastructure Forum has announced that Ian Reeves CBE is to become the new chairman of the organisation and Director of Constructing Excellence. Andrew McNaughton, the previous chairman, is stepping down having successfully overseen the Infrastructure Forum since its launch in November 2006.

Barking and Dagenham Council launched their new Manufacturing Sustainable Communities programme at the Thames Gateway Forum
The programme aims to provide an innovative way to meet the challenge of providing new solutions to housing construction by using modern factory methods. It differs from other off-site manufacturing in that it is promoting a wide variety of materials and structures.
